Question by Raven Wing: What do you think of these characters names? Are they good, bad, or improvable?
I am writing a book and would like some opinion on these names. The characters live in France in the late 1800′s so I’m not quite sure if these names would be accurate to the time period. Please give your honest opinion, but please no rude remarks. Here are the names:
Alexander (For the main character)
Applebaum (It’s a last name)
Esmé (She is a maid)
Berta (Also a maid)
Josephine (Another maid, lol)
Arthur (Main characters father)
Sarah (Main characters wife)
There will of course be more characters, but these are the ones I have so far. Thank you for your answers.
I have added another character and am not sure of this name either. What do you think?
Adrienne (Main Characters mother)
(I’ve no idea what to call these next two characters, they only show up once or twice in the story, but they are important to the plot.)
Barry Beaumont
Bellamy Beaumont
(They are married, and I really only use them as a sort or ‘source of information’ in a little of my story. They’re more trouble then they’re worth)
I just realized Bellamy was a boys name, oops. well The character Bellamy Beaumont is certainly a female, just a female in need of a new name.

It might be a good idea for you to do some research on French names, to make sure your facts are accurate. Like, to me, Josephine and Berta sound sort of more Spanish than French, and Arthur sounds like an English name. Maybe you can use this website to find some close counterparts:
